Declan Murphy and his father Michael are adamant about the importance of good staff and the staff at Murphys Menswear have in the main devoted their working life to the business.

Tom Hartnett from Templeglantine gave long service to Murphys In the 1930s before moving to Sligo and eventually moving back south to manage his own shop in Tralee.

Johnny Moone, a member of the Devon Showband in Newcastle West, gave over three decades of service to the business.

Michael Rowsome worked for a number of years before emigrating to the U.S.A.

Charlie McCarthy from Castleemahon was another before going on to become a department manager with Todds.

A name synonymous with Murphy’s was Tom Baker, who worked in the store for up to 40 years and retired recently, around the same time as Michael Murphy.

When Declan Murphy returned from Australia in 1994 and opened Declan’ s Shoes and Casuals, Ian Scanlon joined the business as did his sister

Belinda Murphy and Mairead Bucke, now a London based opera singer, worked for the company.

Ian, who is currently studying for a Masters degree, still works at Murphy’s Menswear part time.

Ciara Egan from Ballyagran -has been at Murphys full time for the last year, while Aoife McCarthy is employed on a part time basis.
